...but there is Colonel Sanders' finest ayam panas pedas (hot spicy chicken). Every time I've driven by KFC, there's always a big line. Instead of mashed potatoes, they have rice. Also, the fries are not battered like in the US.*
As removed as Aceh is from Jakarta and Medan, evidence of globalization is pretty much everywhere. This past weekend, I was able to buy 12 pirated DVDs for a little over US$8. Titles ranged from classic Hollywood action flicks from the 80s to romantic comedies that just hit the US theatres. Of course, the quality of the newer films are kind of shoddy. I watched 'Monster in Law' the other night, and it kind of blurry - someone had snuck a camcorder into a theatre and recorded the movie. You could see heads popping up once in a while. I'll have to check out the quality of the tv series next week. They have OC Season 1!
For all of you who are interested in buying a Vespa, maybe you should come to Banda Aceh to purchase your new shiny Vespa! New Vespas go for about US$500-1,000.
*YES, I admit to going to KFC last week!
